A Little About Kindergarten:
Kindergarten is such a wonderful year for so many reasons. Kids are so excited to come to school, meet new friends, and of course, learn! A lot of the year is dedicated to social skills and learning to work together. We lay the groundwork for many years of classroom routines and rules. We also do a lot of math and literacy in kindergarten! In the beginning of the year, students are working on letter recognition, letter sounds, rhyming, and listening for the first sounds in words. As the year goes on, we learn how to blend sounds together and eventually learn to read! Lots of at home practice is helpful as well. In math, we learn all about numbers, and by the end of the year we count to 100 and understand basic addition! As you can see, so much learning takes place throughout the course of the year. Your continued support and interest in your child's learning is crucial as they become life long learners. Thank you for all you do!
A Little About Me:
I'm originally from New Hampshire and I went to the University of New Hampshire for my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood education. I moved to Massachusetts 5 years ago, and now live in Ipswich with my husband Rob and our dog Penny.
This is my third year here at Vet's and I absolutely love it! What a great school community! I love teaching kindergarten, and have been so impressed with the staff and students here at Veteran's. Prior to working as a kindergarten teacher, I taught in a special ed preschool program at the Bentley School in Salem. I also worked as an ABA Tutor for Marblehead Public Schools. I have had a wide range of experiences which I learned a lot from, and am so glad that I found my home here in Gloucester! Currently I am also working to get my Master's Degree in Reading at Gordon College. I graduate in May... woohoo!!
I am so excited about the group of students in my class this year. It is such a fun, loving, caring, and hard working group of kids and I look forward to what the rest of the year will bring!
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm available to chat after school on Monday's and Wednesdays until 3:30, or by appointment. I can also be reached easily by email: [email protected].
